Luke 21:4 Then Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury,

The same Greek word at the root of ‘looked up’, in the Gospel is the same one used in the story of blind Bartimaeus in Mark 10:51 when He tells Jesus “that I may see”. Hence, we observe that this was not a casual observation, but one that was intentional. In plain terms, Jesus was staring as gifts were dropped into the temples’s treasury.
The very definition of public means ‘concerning everyone’. Hence, even through scrutiny is sometimes blown out of proportion, some scrutiny and judgement through the eyes of men should be expected whenever anything is done in public.
The truth is not all thrive with exposure, and not all prefer to be at the centre of attention. However, the alternative which is to do things in secret is not applicable because we are sent into the world, with our lights shining so all can see and give glory to God. We have to be on display for men to see God through us. Our growth, therefore, in addition to being physical, should therefore include development of character and virtue.
This is why God hides men, and forms them, in preparing them to withstand the scrutiny of many eyes before sending them out. Here is the conclusion: whatever you display in public: actions, habits, words, clothes, relationships etc, exposure opens you up to scrutiny. The question therefore is “are you prepared for many eyes?”
