1 Peter 2:17 reads “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king”. This is an interesting capture of a contrast with the Gospel text today. Luke 18:2 introduces us to a judge who went against those very words
“In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man."
This was not only a third party description, the judge went further to confirm ‘even though I do not fear God or respect men‘. Now that was a point of concern because we begin to wonder: what kind of was He? In the very least, he was a man with influence, enough power to decide the course of justice in the widow’s case.
Recall the words of king Nebuchadnezzar before he was cast off his throne “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?”(Daniel 4:30). Such can be the case when some men taste power in any way or form. Those who don’t understand the dynamics of power tend to become a god unto themselves – no fear of God and no respecter of persons.
By so doing, in their pride and arrogance, position themselves to be resisted by God.
You can run to God when resisted by others, but who do you run to when God himself does the resisting?
