BE READY FOR ACTION

One thing man does not have access to is ‘all knowledge’. That is one of the attributes reserved only for God. For some then, this can becomes a source of crippling fear and anxiety with gaps on their journey they would want to know about. For others, the switch flips to another extreme and they adopt the stance of ‘God will do it all, nothing for me to do’. Their rationale, “because He knows it all”.

The verse of interest from today’s from Luke’s Gospel reads: “Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning”(12:35). Rendered in the Good News translation, the meaning becomes clearer “Be ready for whatever comes, dressed for action and with your lamps lit,”.

Thus we see that while God provides grace, the dimension of readiness becomes the responsibility of man, not God. Interestingly, the readiness is in anticipation for “whatever or everything”.
We ought to anticipate that life can throw curveballs at us: the good joy and laughter, or tears, losses and even surprises that can knock the wind out of your sail and sweep you off you feet.

One of the things you do on the journey of life is thus to accrue resources that ensure that you are somewhat ready for whatever life throws at you. Surely, you will not be a master of the storms and waves that come, but you will have enough to weather whatever storms come while you establish your anchoring.
