SUBMIT TO TEACHING

Luke 12:11-12 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.

Some offer one description of attaining success as ‘when preparation meets opportunities’. Emphasizing the place of efficient preparation while anticipating the arrival of a suitable opportunity. However, taken at the surface, today’s text appears to remove preparation entirely from the picture, instead replacing it with ‘waiting on the Holy Spirit to teach you what to say in the moment.’

The consideration however ought to seen two-dimensionally because there are moments in life that no amount of preparation can get you ready for. Some things you can simply never know unless you are taught.

We are taught through a number of ways: experiences, the ministry of men or by the Spirit of God himself, who searches all things, even the deep things of God. Whether it is through the faculty of our mind: imagination, impressions and inspiration, access to information through the spiritual gifts of sight, hearing and knowing, or through the loud audible voice, the Spirit of God teaches us.

Surely, there are times when you have to take charge and be responsible through preparation, yet, there are equally moments when what you need to do is submit to being taught. Otherwise, the content of some lessons will pass you by.
And there are some transition points you will need those lessons to advance past.
