There many moments when we come across questions that call for deeper personal reflection and introspection. In fact, these questions are often so weighty that leaving them as rhetorical or unanswered appear the right thing to do. Job asks two of such questions today :
Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb? (Job 3:11)
These were not the philosophical coinings of one who had attained intellectually mastery, they were those of a man who had received a heavy battering and bruising from life. He had lost all it all, children, assets; and was barely hanging on to his very life. Those questions came from a man who seems to have earned the right to question his very existence.
In that moment, Job seemed to have wondered if there even was a reason for his birth. In fact, such was his contemplation that he began to wonder if his life was worth living anymore. He wondered if the creator might have made a big error by keeping him on the face of the earth only to face such treacherous and life altering events.
If that is your story, and you have asked yourself the same questions, albeit in other ways, the word of God says to tell you ‘my ways are not your ways, neither are my thoughts yours. You weren’t there when God laid the foundations of the earth, or set the sky as a carpet. The creator has made no mistake about you, and you are here because He wanted you here with a reason in mind.
Life has a way of bullying men, aiming for them to throw their hands up in defeat. But regardless of the storms you face, hold on to your life, knowing that it is worth much to God and to his purpose. You are not a mistake.
