Reference text: Job 1:6-22

You may not have paid attention to this, but have you wondered why in all of the major misfortunes that befell job in the obening chapter of the book, there was always someone who lived to tell the tale? Their account of events was like a rehearsed song each time: destruction came, but “I alone have escaped to tell you”.
That, beloved, was no accident-it was very intentional. The enemy has a way of reminding you of past pain, defeats and disappointments. A reminder of scars, betrayals and inadequacies. Circumstances are so amplified and poor outcomes seemingly played on repeat until one becomes so conscious of that as an internalized reality.
This tactic is still uses today, with the goal to shift our focus off Jesus unto alternative realities. Whatever plays on repeat in one’s mind, is likely to be birthed. This is why we are charged to set our affections not on things below, but on things above. Our meditation should be on the word, the promises of God and the immutability of His Word. This way, regardless of how many times defeats are replayed, our set target becomes the victory won for us by Jesus.
