Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
People who understand the concept of time, tend to live differently. There is always a sense of urgency, clarity and anticipation that governs their ways. Time in this context, dose not apply only to the numbers ticking on the face of a clock, but also broadly to seasons and transitions.
Those who understand the value of time, adopt approaches and strategies that harness the advantages of time. They will plant in due season, and so have fruits to reap at harvest. They appreciate that there is a time for everything, that there won’t only be weeping, loss, tears, tearing, silence, and destruction, but also seasons of laughter, gain, sewing, speaking, and building up (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).
Such are those who live in anticipation for the next season-they are resilient when the tough seasons come, and also survive them because they anticipated its arrival. They are not wasteful in the face of abundance because they know seasons of abundance won’t last forever. They value the connections with those around them, sharing in making all kinds of memories, whether filled with tears or with laughter, whether in silence, or in speaking.
Those who have been taught to value time, live life diligently, with an awareness of its variableness, unpredictability and the conclusion that life is ‘lived in time’. You will not always have time to do what you desire. God does restore seasons, but there are some seasons which when missed, will always leave scars or consequences.
So indeed, we ought to pray with the Psalmist “teach us to number our days [to understand the value of time], they we may apply our hearts unto wisdom [wisely spend our time as we should].
