MINIBITES

It is interesting that despite the assurance that the Christian journey is not pain or suffering free, many expect it to be so. No stretching, no pruning, no discomfort; nothing other done a bed of thornless roses is expected. We seem to forget that we live our lives in the shadow of the cross, the very symbol of suffering and of pain. Yet, with an outcome that is eternal in impact.

The follow up from this is that we should not be so quick to pass on the bitterness of pain to others. Some people appear to be happy living with the banner ‘everyone must also suffer all I have’. We are reminded to owe nothing, except a debt of love. The sufferings we may endure are not fortified to destroy, but to enrich and build. They are not impartations and burdens to lay on the shoulders of others.

It is often frustrating that while man frantically chases after many things ‘in time’, the God who is being petitioned appears to be biding His time. God is never in a hurry. He gives speed, but He is never in a haste. Why? Because He does not live in time as we do. If we don’t want to be God’s opponents, let us not tell him what is better for us. He knows better.
