Jesus today poses a question to his disciples which we have heard multiple times and it began with the words “what do you think?” This means that you are allowed to have an opinion on the matter at hand. The question that followed was this: “
If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?" (Matthew 18:12).
This seemed like a question of economics, a simple risk versus benefit. The obvious answer is ‘it makes little sense to risk losing more of the ninety nine because of the loss of one. So take the hit and preserve the 99. This makes sense in every sphere, it’s easier to make up 1% than it is to make up 99%.
That is the world of men, but for God, that one was of value to him and not worth taking a hit on. That is why we are men, and He is God. How we perceive things are on entirely different planes. Isaiah was therefore accurate in saying about God:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts (55:8-9).
Surely, we can come into alignment on some of the thoughts God has about us, and He reveals some of His ways to us. Yet, God is God. Beloved, you will not understand all He does, and or agree with all His ways, but He sees and knows all you do not. So yours is to journey on with Him in Trust.
