The voice translation renders Andrew’s words to Jesus this way:
I met a young boy in the crowd carrying five barley loaves and two fish, but that is practically useless in feeding a crowd this large"(John 6:9)
Today’s story is very akin to that of Moses standing before the red sea, holding only a staff in his hand. Andrew’s description of the resources at hand as ‘practically useless’ was a seemingly harsh truth, yet it was a valid conclusion to arrive at. However who made that call? Who stamped the final seal of judgment in the current circumstance? Why do men conclude when God has not spoken?
Another rendition presents Andrew’s comments this way ‘ But thatās a drop in the bucket for a crowd like this.ā Yet, it takes many such drops to fill that bucket. Beloved,
You are the one who sees the five barely loaves and two fish as ‘practically useless’ in the face of the current situation,
You are the one who undermines what you carry.
You are the one who disrespects what you have,
You are the one who undervalues the people, and the giftings you have, and
In the name of humility, you have settled for mediocrity, and failure to recognize value.
Undervaluing what you have, will always cause you to undermine it’s potential impact. That is how you miss out.
