SAFE WITHIN HIS LAWS

Psalm 19:7-8 The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,  making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

If there is one thing men have worked so hard to gain mastery over, it is the ability to break rules and laws without bearing the associated consequences. Their rationale is often this: ‘rules are limiting and hinder the ability to fully express one’s tendencies. The Christian on a journey realizes that they are walking within the confines of very many laws, precepts and commands given by God. In fact, a myriad of standards that can make one question where exactly freedom of worship lies.

Yet, it appears the desire to rebel in this case is quelled by the Psalmist who identified nothing but goodness within the  limits God suggests in his laws, precepts, statutes and commands.

Beloved, it’s not because God delights in restricting our freedoms and choices that He gives us laws, His rationale is captured in the very Psalm we read “God’s laws are perfect. They protect us, make us wise, and give us joy and light.” (TLB, Psalm 19:7)

The one who digs a pit may fall into it, and the one who breaks through a wall [hedge] may be bitten by a snake (Ecclesiastes 10:8). We are actually “safest” when we walk within the boundaries of God’s laws. Not because He is interested in limiting our motions, but because that is what keeps the hedge around us intact when the enemy comes seeking.
