Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Many appear to have taken the words ‘seek ye first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. And in seeking the kingdom of God, their pursuit have been so fixed on the things that pertain to godliness. However, on those things that pertain to life, many are ignorant all in the name of seeking the after kingdom of God.
We tend to forget that excellence, value, integrity, productivity, are also to be sought. And those are entirely up to us, animated by grace. Even though material resources, including money, which are often pitted in competition with God, are not required to serve Him, they can enhance the quality of one’s service to God.
When needs are met, and resources are available to support the work of the kingdom and the needs of others, one can have a clear conscience to live as a Christian with integrity and honour. However, worry, especially in the guise of lack in any form; has the potential to derail even the most dogged of spiritual pursuits.
Beloved, you indeed cannot serve both God and money, so by all means love the lord your God with all you heart, soul, mind and strength. However, our press into God has to be balanced. Therefore, don’t downplay the place of adequate resources in your Christian journey, you might learn the hard way.
