Whenever anyone enters into a venture, they do so with expectations, goals and targets. When all goes as expected, there is cause for celebration. So what if ‘life happens?’ A storm here, a wave there and those expectations are not met? What does one do?
The goal of today’s message is to bring to attention the need to have “healthy expectations”. The kind where the world does not end when you do not get the answers you desire. The kind where you don’t go up in arms because things don’t work out as you had planned.
Many find themselves stuck and unable to move on because their targets and expectations were not met as they thought. Beloved, all our expectations have to be moderated by within the boundaries of three things:
- The word of God,
- The soverignty of God and
- The will of men
The word encapsulates the will of God. Therefore, whatever God has presented as his word, the believer can expect. However, there is the second dimension where the sovereignty of God can override our expectations, especially when what we expect has inherent potential to be a danger to us and to others. The final boundary is important because even though God is creator of all, He gave men the free will to make choices. Therefore, the will of men can say hinder and say “No” to your expectations.
So as a reminder, men can say No, and God can say No. Therefore, moderate your expectations within these boundaries because if not, you will live life with a boatload of disappointments, causing you to draw conclusions that life is really against you.
