A TEST OF RESILIENCE AND PATIENCE

Repitition brings mastery, however it can also bring boredom and trigger resistance. When tasked with doing the very same thing on every single occasion, one might lose interest and become demotivated. The main text in today’s reading is as follows:

1 Kings 18:43 And Elijah said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

So this servant, who is not specifically named, had to go and look towards the sea seven times to see if clouds of rain had gathered. What stood out about was him was consistent compliance and the fact that he neither complained to, nor discouraged Elijah. Now that, is hard to do.

At the third time of asking, I reckon many of us would have said ‘this isn’t working, can you just stop or why do you keep asking me to repeat this task when there are no results to show for it?

However, there are moments in life where we will be required to do just this: obedience without complaint, resistance or discouragement. It becomes a test of both our resilience and patience, in the work God does through others in the school of process and timing. That is a school we have to pass through because the lessons learnt there, pertain to life and godliness.
