1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.
Elijah comes to the people today with a big charge and a choice to make. However, unlike Moses who added a recommendation ‘choose life’ (Deut 30:19) Elijah left things more open. He teels them in plain language ‘there is God, and there is Baal, make up your mind whom you would follow’.
It was not a time to be doing a little of Baal, and a little of God. That is mixture, and the jealousy of God will resist that. Even beyond this, constantly moving between two points and changing direction is energy expending – there is no focus, no continuity and obviously, no room to gain of competence or mastery .
Beloved, in matters that pertain to life and destiny, you really cannot afford to sit on the fence. It will be too costly to do so. The singular focus required to journey through life requires a readiness to say ‘at your word’ – and that is a cry of commitment, not of a wavering reed in the in the wind.
