The Scribe in today’s Gospel was given a complement thus by Jesus following his wise response: ‘you are not far from the Kingdom of God’. It becomes obvious that the distance been referred to here was not a physical one, but one related to mental orientation and mindset. The first of which the scribe rephrased back to Jesus ‘to love God with all heart, soul, mind, and strength was greater than all offering and burnt sacrifice’.
The first realization those who claim to belong to the kingdom of God is to acknowledge the first rule of all kingdoms, earthly or divine: “There is a King”.
So if I may burst your proud bubble with some harsh facts ‘,’ you are not your own boss!’ You did not make yourself, and neither do you have the capacity to sustain yourself.
Like all other things, you were created for God’s glory, and your sufficiency is of Him. Your whole existence therefore has to find meaning through the eyes of the God who made you. I repeat “you are not your own boss”, hence you will be held to account of your stewardship.
