REFERENCE TEXT: MARK 10:46-52
Before any race, there is some form of signaling. Whether light or sound is used, there is always a stimuli that marks the start of any event. For us as humans, we also have stimuli that solicit responses from us, we could refer to these as triggers. This is a description that has two sides, thus one ought to be careful to ensure it is understood reasonably.
Your triggers can be what leads you to identify opportunities for advancement and action. Like Bartimaeus, when he heard Jesus was in town, that was the cue for action hence his cry: ‘son of David, have mercy on me’. For David, it was Goliath’s taunting of the armies of Israel that triggered his desire to go into battle (1 Sam 17:26). Those are positive triggers.
On another hand, triggers could be handheld grenades that initiate your destructive tendencies. A trigger can cause you to pull things down without much thought: relationships, investments, and structures that may have taken years to build.
You have triggers, but it is in your best interest to lay them all at the feet of the cross and to strive towards transformation and renewal of mind.
Don’t lose precious things because you were ‘triggered’, rather keep those triggers in check.
