KNOW WHO BRINGS TOMORROW

Reference text: James 4:13-17

We can choose to live in three different realities: the past, the present or the future. The past is meant to be learnt from, the present, to be lived and the future, to look forward to. Despite all the unknowns that tomorrow holds, people still make plans in anticipation of its arrival because to make that unlived experience meaningful, there is a need to sow towards it.

It should not surprise us then that saint James’ letter today addresses those who plan for everything including the future, even though unsure of what it holds. Instead of them to say ‘I will’, he admonished them to say ‘if the Lord wills’.

The only reason you go to bed with no care in the world, expecting to wake up when the sun rises is because of the words in Psalm 4:8 ‘In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.’ Without that assurance, it will be a risk to fall asleep, even momentarily. The only time when you have certainty to look forward to tomorrow, is an assurance in what it holds.

The core message is therefore this: “Because you don’t know what tomorrow brings, you need to know who brings tomorrow.” Get to know God.
