ARE YOU REALLY FREE?

Reference text: Acts 28:16-30

Acts 28:16 And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

Today’s account tells us of Paul’s house arrest when he came to Rome. While he acknowledged the injustice, he mentioned he had nothing against his nation. He was not angry, and he was not bitter about it. That is our first lesson – to acknowledge the injustices and wrong doings others do, to acknowledge that they are hurtful, but to not allow those experiences to plant seeds of anger and bitterness within our hearts.

The second lesson is this: “even though Paul was physically in chains, his mind was free, and his spirit soared; his conviction was resolute, and his faith ever sure.” For us, the things that hold us are not necessarily physical chains, we are bound by the unseen chains of culture, experience, education, and society”; those things which are seemingly intended to upgrade us, but unconsciously become the very things that limit us.

‘He that the son sets free, is free indeed’. That freedom is not just physically, but extends beyond. You could be physically free, but bound in other areas, or like Paul, although physically limited, continue to operate with the freedom and peace found in the knowledge of the son of God. It’s your call.
