DAY 113

John 15:2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
Pruning is a process that describes the removal of diseased, damaged, structurally weakened or unwanted parts of a plant with the aim to facilitate further growth. While it is similar to shearing, the difference is unlike shearing, pruning is targeted and selective, it is not done randomly.
Since pruning can target roots, buds or even fruit bearing branches, it always feels like a loss: the loss of strong roots, new buds or lush greenery and fruit. However, without pruning, the energy of the vine is wasted because not everything that is green, and every fruit that is borne, meets the requirements of the vine dresser. Knowing what he wants, he removes those parts that are limitations to His end goal.
Unhealthy parts of a plant attracts pests, diseases and increases the risk of losing the whole plant. So despite the short term losses which can feel like a big blow, the end result is a targeted nourishment of healthy parts. There are habits, relationships, and appetites that God will prune. They may not be necessarily bad, but they may be excesses and limiting to the fruits that should be borne on your branches.
Trust the vine dresser to do his pruning, and even if it hurts. Trust His experiences for He knows the process too well, and guarantees the best outcome.
