CAST THEM ALL ON HIM

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

A song from earlier school years came to mind as I read today’s text. It is one many Ghanaians would be familiar with:
“cast your burdens, unto Jesus, for He cares for you, (repeat twice)
Higher (repeat 7 times),
Jesus is the higher”

This part of the song is met with upbeat excitement and joy, with jumps and shouts accompanying singing. It is only today the the fact that one becomes light enough to rejoice when worries and burdens have been dropped came to mind.

Interestingly, the keyword in today’s text is ‘casting’ – that is an intentional decision to throw something down, often without compulsion. That thing is not taken from you, but you have make the choice to lay it down.

Unfortunately, many of us tell God ‘stand back, I think I’ve got this one’. We deem some anxieties and worries as ours to bear and find out too late that they were never ours to bear when the crushing weight becomes glaring. The invitation today is to ‘cast all your cares’ on Him because He care affectionately for you. Don’t leave any for yourself, cast them all.
