In every medical emergency, the absence of calm heads in the heat of the moment is always a contributing factor to negative outcomes. Therefore, even though the temptation might be for everyone to enter into a state of blind panic, the preferred option is for all to be in a state of rest.
Sait Marks account of Jesus asleep in the boat comes to mind.
“Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”(4:38)
While the disciples were being battered by the turbulent waves of the sea, Jesus was asleep on a pillow. He was comfortably at peace in the midst of the storm. But mind you, he was at peace “in the storm”, not at peace “with the storm”.
To be at peace with the storm would have been to acknowledge the status quo, but choose to do nothing about it. It equates to a state of comfortable stagnation where no advance is made. However, when Jesus arose, He rebuked the storm. Beloved, whenever you find ‘peace in the storm’, solutions emerge from that state of rest; but finding ‘peace with the storm’ will keep you from growing.
