GOD KNOWS BEST

DAY 93/366

Among the leading causes of conflict is misinterpretation and misunderstanding. Where what is intended to be communicated isn’t what is received. The scene for our reflection is at the beautiful gate, where a man who had been born lame from birth, was carried to daily to ask alms. Our point of interest is the point at which he encounters Peter and John:

"he fixed his eyes on them expecting to receive something from them (Acts 3:5)"

The “something” in this context, had been predefined according to the standards of this man and all those who had given to him over the years. Very likely: money, food, and perhaps clothing, would have been the main constitution of the ‘something’. But, Peter and John offered him something that was not on his list: ‘not silver or gold, but a restoration of strength to his limbs in the name of Jesus'(vs 6).

Often times, the things that we expect, may not be the things we actually need. What may seem pressing, as though our lives depended on it, may not matter as much in the grande scheme of things. God, the giver of every good gift, is aware of this and so does not always follow our “expectations” of him because even though we may not have discerned, He knows what things are right for us and when they are right to come.

By all means, have expectations because the expectations of the righteous will not be cut short. However, don’t let your fixed expectations limit your receiving. Besides what you’re requesting, you may need somethings even you have not considered, so stay open to allowing God give those to you, He knows best.

You may think you know what you need, until you encounter the God who knows what you do not.
