TRANSFORMATION OF MIND

DAY 88/365

Reference text: John 13:1-15

When a person knows how to hit the reset button on a device but doesn’t know how the same device works, they could find themselves stuck in a permanent loop of hitting reset ever so often whenever troubles arise.

In our Gospel today, Peter wanted a full bath when Jesus offered to wash his feet, thus prompting Jesus to highlight that ‘one bath was sufficient’. Likewise, once we have been immersed into Jesus, we don’t need another bath. However, we will need continual ‘washing’. Not in a literal sense with water, but as captured in Ephesians 5:26 ‘washing with the word’. In other words, beyond our salvation, there has to be transformation.

St Paul wrote this to the church in Galatia ‘the heir as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, although he is owner of everything’ (Gal 4:1). We must make conscious effort to partake in a feast of knowledge geared towards the transformation of mind. Without this pursuit, we would only remain ‘saved children’, never maturing into the heirs God desires us to become.
