DAY 78/366

John 13:37-38 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you. Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!
It will take more than your humanity to lay down your life for another. In fact, you have to be helped by God. Jesus watched Peter as he boldy confessed his intention to lay down his life for Him. He wasn’t wrong, the only thing was that he was speaking from the place of his own strength.
That is why Jesus answered ‘Will you really lay down your life for me?’ Afterwards, revealing Peter’s impending back to back betrayal before the cock crowed. Peter was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that he would die for Jesus. But oh, what a big fail when that time arrived.
Beloved, our humanity will always lure us into a sense of self sufficiency, but that is nothing but a false confidence. Our sufficiency is not of ourselves, but of God. Peter’s response following his bold claims reminds us of the words ‘, he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall’. Don’t be fooled into thinking on your own, you have what it takes’, because it is the hand of God at work in, and through you that helps you to stand.
You ignore this at your own peril.
