DAY 77/366
Isaiah 42:3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
‘A bruised reed and a faintly burning wick’ could very easily lose their strength and flame respectively. Their hopes rest on a knife’ edge and anyone could easily take advantage of their precarious position because their weaknesses: a soft spot and the fading Flame, are readily discernable.
In many instances, being armed with what can break another person might make you feel as though you have the upper hand, and so end up acting all high and mighty. It could even fill you with a sense of invincibility. However, there is more to living than that. We are rather called to do more; hence a charge “not to make your way forward through life by standing tall on the weaknesses of others”.
It is our reminder that even though others have weaknesses, knowledge of them should not be used as ammunition.
