ENGAGE YOUR MIND

DAY 73 OF 366

Matthew 1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. And wile he taught ok

Today, we read about the birth of Jesus. However, the central character is Joseph, husband of Mary. Two things are of note in the account we read that we ought to explore in greater detail.

The first is “Joseph was ‘unwilling’ to put Mary to shame”.
After making such a wild discovery about the woman he was bethrothed to, despite being entitled to openly letting go of Mary with a truckload of pain and anger, Joseph opted for a secret break of their engagement. He was a just man. Unlike Him however,  we sometimes tend to underestimate the place of ‘our will’ and so resolve to go with the flow.

We think we ought to respond to every and  all situations the same way everyone else does. Yet, his decision making in the heat of the moment was not clouded by His emotions. Could this have been The selling point as to why God trusted Him to be father to a son who in the not so distance future, made the statement ‘did you not know that I would be busy with my father’s affairs?’ It would take a particular kind of man to respond the way Joseph did. However, if that were to be a test, it was one Joseph had already passed with Mary before Jesus came long.

The second thing to think about are the words “while he considered these things”.
Consideration or pondering on things is not the equivalent of worrying, in fact, this refers to an engagement of your mental faculties in a way that draws on the inspiration God has given to us. That inspiration can be breathed upon by the Spirit when engaged right.

Beloved, the mind you have is one that God has entrusted you with, don’t be afraid to engage it.
