TITLES DON’T IMPRESS HIM

DAY 66/366

Reference text: Luke 18:9-14

We read about two men who went to the temple to pray: a pharisees and a tax collector. From their prayers, we glean many attitudes that are worth pondering on further. The pharisee went to prayer carrying his titles with him. Perhaps, he thought that would make a good impression on God. He seemed oblivious of the many accolades the God before whom he stood had.

In fact, he did not know about the posture of the elders when they stood in worship: they got off their thrones, and laid down their crowns (Rev 4:10). Titles are not what grants a man access to God and those who think their own deeds are what qualify them to have standing with God will be wise to think again.

In truth, ‘we are seated together in heavenly places with Christ’ (Eph 2:6), but don’t let that idea take seed in your heart. Whenever you stand before the God of heaven, you aren’t standing before Him as your colleague or equal. It will be the wrong disposition to adopt. In case you have forgotten, He is God.
