DAY 61/365
REFERENCE TEXT: Luke 15:1-3,11-32

The story in focus today is the parable of the prodigal which always throws up new dimensions with every read. While reading today, I was intrigued again by the request of the younger son who said to his father: ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.’(vs 12)
Whenever we read this, we are drawn to question the inappropriate nature of this request, but today, we are invited to consider his request in another light. While we will have concerns about many of his decisions, this son realised that he had an inheritance coming his way. So instead of just waiting for things to arrive, he asked for it.
This is something we dont see a lot of, and so end up behaving like the older brother. Him, having never asked anything of his father, found himself complaining that he had never received even a young goat to celebrate with his friends despite being ever obedient. The idea of simply believing that “what will be will be” and “what is mine will come to me” has cheated many people out of Inheritances.
There are some Inheritances you have to ask for, else you may never receive them.
