DAY 57/366

LEARN TO DO GOOD
Isaiah 1:16-17 Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless,Plead for the widow.
The charge from Isaiah is a call to advocacy, to rise up and in out small way, make the become voices for those who for some reason, are unable to speak up. However, even before we don the cloak of advocacy, there is a requirement to “cease doing evil and learn to do good”. That is what caught my attention.
Shouldn’t it be automatic that with a decision to believe in God should come a natural inclination to cease evil and do good? Should the juices of goodness, the very nature of God, not automatically flow through us by the Holy Spirit shed abroad into our hearts? If your own answer to these questions is I’m not sure or a nod and a yes, then lets journey together.
While we are made in the very image and likeness of God, habits and character, in the realm of man, are not imparted – they are learnt and nurtured to maturity. You will not automatically do good, you have to learn to do good. You have to learn to give, learn to pray for others, learn to support, listen and help others.
This will be a product of your conscious actions, deliberate choices and intentional responses to life’s circumstances, it won’t be automatic. So if you’re waiting for good to just flow out, it’s time to adopt a different approach ‘learn to do good’.
