WHO CAN STAND AGAINST THE LORD?

DAY 56/365

Romans 8:31b If God is for us, who can be against us?

This verse qualifies to sit in a number of categories, whether as a regular or rhetorical question, a confession or declaration.

The use of ‘if’ is rather interesting because one would have expected that God would always be for everyone all the time. However, there is a point of divergence, situations where one finds themselves with God not in their team, but in the opposition camp. One such situation is in a state of pride where scripture is explicit ‘God resists the proud’ – that is God against.

We read these ten words with confident assurance because if we somehow manage to find ourselves on the same side as the Almighty, that is a settled matter. No power of hell nor scheme of man has the potential to halt our advance. Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, can be against us.

Of course they can amass their weapons and stand against, but they will not prevail. This is what it means to have God for you, ‘things will surely rise against you, but nothing that comes against you bears the capacity to knock you out because nothingĀ  can stand [successfully] against the Lord.
