YOU CAN SAFELY FOLLOW

DAY 48/366

Luke 5:27, 28 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

Reading the Gospel today sent my mind back to the call of Peter and Andrew in Matthew 4:19. To them, Jesus said ‘follow me and I will make you fishers of men’. Thus, in their call, they received both an invitation and a destination. They had clarity on what they were to become and so leaving their fishing nets to tag along made sense.

Even Abraham when he was called to leave his father’s house, was given a destination and associated promises. Yet, with Levi today, all he gets are the words ‘follow me’, and this seemed enough because he left everything, arose and followed.

Levi’s call often resonates with that of many of us, where God does not appear to give any detail on what he is doing with us or where he is taking us. We, therefore, sometimes hate the sovereignty of God because of the processes he takes us through, but in truth, He is not obligated to tell why, he only needs you to follow. You can trust Him and just follow, because He has your best interest at heart.
