REDIRECT YOUR DESIRES

DAY 44/366

No weapon formed [fashioned, forged] against you shall prosper”( Isaiah 54:17a) This verse from the book of Isaiah came to mind as I read today’s letter from James. Our verse for discussion stemming from the above is James 1:14

But each one is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desires.

The word translated as “formed” in Isaiah is of a similar root as the skill a potter uses ‘moulding’ – detailed attention to detail to ensure the outcome is right. Therefore, the enemy will not randomly just fire certain arrows of temptation our way. Like a data scientist, while roaming to and fro seeking whom to devour, a person’s own desires can become a platform for use when the opportunity arises.

For a man of great wealth, a temptation of money does not seem like a wise strategy, but one of pride sure sounds great, and for a desperate man, a temptation to come into abundance might work better than one of pride. Thus, based on the desires of each, appropriate weapons are fashioned intelligently to hit their target. And oh what a big hit when the bait is taken.

It is important, therefore beloved, to consider the things we set our hearts upon, those things we consider and claim as ‘our desires’ because they could become the baits that lure us into uncharted waters. Redirect your desires.
