CAN YOU RECOGNISE HIM?

DAY 36/366

Mark 6:54 And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,

The cover image has no title, but with prior knowledge, that pattern is discernable. The root words translated ‘recognise’ literally means to “know again”. To recognise” is thus defined as ‘to identify (someone or something) from having encountered them before.’ In other words, without prior contact or exposure, one cannot recognise. Facial recognition technologies operate based on this principle of identification.

It involves putting pieces of different parts of a puzzle together until that eureka moment, ‘I recognise that’. You must therefore know enough about something or someone to recognise them: whether it is their physical build, their voice, unique traits, identifiable patterns, actions, etc. But by all means, an initial reference point has to exist.

The people today immediately recognised Jesus once he reached ashore. They recognised because they knew of, and about him. Beloved, it takes knowledge to recognise, the question therefore is “how much do you know?” Let us pursue encounters with the Cross, with the Word and with the Holy Spirit; because we cannot recognise Jesus, nor be fully acquainted with him in the absence of encounters.
