DAY 26/366

2 Tim 1: 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
Among the reasons for marriage, a crucial one is the ‘securing of divine heritages’. It is the reason Jesus can be traced in genealogy down to Abraham. In this institution of marriage arises family life, and within family life, the concept of inheritance crops up.
In many spheres, inheritance has almost always been interpreted to refer to material things handed down to others. In fact, rarely is anything else covered under the umbrella of inheritance, other than the mention of personality traits every now and again.
However, today we read that among the things that should be handed down as inheritances, far beyond material things, our convictions and the dimensions of God we have caught should be paramount. In the life of Timothy, it became apparent that ‘sincere faith’ had become a generational heirloom passed down three generations to him.
Let us not just become people preoccupied with gathering material wealth to pass on, there are inheritances that are weightier than money and things.
