FOLLOWING WILL COST YOU

DAY 21/366

Mark 1:17,18 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

Every now and again, we are reminded of the things we forget, amongst them, the reality that our decision to follow Jesus will come at a cost. The call of the disciples today is not comparable to that of the men called by the vineyard owner to go work while they stood idling in the market square. This was a call of professionals and family men. They had a lot to lose.

It is no wonder that down the the line, when Peter said ‘we have left ALL to follow you, Jesus gave us a glimpse of what that all comprised: ‘house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands”(Mark 10:29).

We are often baited into believing that we come to God just to receive, besides, the invitation to the mountain of God sounds much like a  free pass. But mind you, it comes at a cost. If not include in the list Jesus provides, it will come at the cost of your time, your obedience, or the constraints on your desires which this following will require of you.

In very simple terms, following Jesus will cost you, but the gains at the end, will outweigh any price you paid on that journey.
