CAN YOU PICK THE STONES FOR YOUR BATTLE?

DAY 16/366

Reference text: 1 Samuel 17:32-51

David run towards the battle line to meet Goliath during their face off, but let’s not even for a moment think that David was operating on a flush of adrenaline because it would have been folly for a young lad who had spent his days tending sheep, to charge at a veteran soldier in a one-on-one fight.

It will also be rather rush to think David ‘got lucky’ in this fight because no one can really becomes a champion by accident. We notice a few things before David approached Goliath: besides having in his hand a sling, his staff and the shepherd’s pouch, what stands out is his action when he got to the brook. We read in 1st Samuel 17:40 ‘he chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag’.

He knew exactly what stones to pick for this battle, and that was borne out of his preparation and practice in the wild, not by chance.

So before running to meet ‘Goliath’, make sure you know how to pick five smooth stones for your sling. Prepare! because if you ran head first into a battle without preparation, you risk becoming a casualty.
