WHAT ARE YOU SAYING TO YOURSELF?

DAY 11/366

We read an interesting account in scripture today which can be summarised this way:

“Israel and the Phillistines were at war and in the first round of battle, Israel were defeated, losing 4000 men. They figured the absence of the ark of covenant was the contributing factor to their defeat hence, they sent for it from Shiloh. It’s arrival was was met with a thunderous shout. Even then, in round two of battle, Israel suffered even bigger losses than in the first battle – 30000 foot soldiers died.

I wish I could go on and on about Israel, but it is the Philistine army who are crucial in today’s discussion. We see them in two phases: one phase so acknowledged God’s mighty hand in Egypt that they threw in the towel even before the battle started saying ‘We’re doomed! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? They are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness ” ( 1Sam:4:9)

However, there was another set of the same Philistines who countered that defeatist mentality with a cry to battle and of courage: “Take courage and behave like men, ye Philistines: lest you come to be servants to the Hebrews, as they have served you: take courage and fight” (1 Sam 4:9)

Here then, is the message:

You can speak yourself into defeat, depression, surrender and loss, or equally speak yourself into courage, boldness, and victory. Whichever you accept as true, will become the reality you enjoy. Is starts with words
