YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

DAY 6/366

If you needed a large sum of money, and you knew an individual who could give that to you on very good terms, what do you actively pursue: the money or the person?

There is a story told of a wealthy man who was so fed up with the lifestyle of his only son that he bequeathed a large chunk of his estate to his most trusted servant. As a final act of mercy, he told his son he could pick one thing from all he had. The Son responded “I choose the servant!” Why? Because everything the servant has, becomes his.

What mattered here was the relationship, not the possessions. John in today’s letter writes “whoever has the son has life, whoever does not have the son does not have life”.(1 John 5:12). This is not simply talk about ‘being alive’, it is about being a possessor of the very life of God’.

We sometimes trivialise our relationship, with God and with men,  in apparent pursuit of things. However, we come to realise that access to this life in God, is possible solely through a relationship with Jesus, the son of God. Relationships are currencies, in fact, they have more impact that you might accord them because it is that one currency that will determine our eternal destination. So don’t trivialise them.
