POINTING THE WAY TO JESUS

DAY 5/366

John 1:46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Upon hearing this question, Philip’s response paraphrased was this ‘perhaps you have made up your own conclusions about the situation, but you have the opportunity to modify your thinking now, so come and see.’

The role of Philip in this whole discourse was to be the channel that introduced Nathaniel to Jesus. He did not enter into a battle of words with him nor refute his suggestion. He simply invited him along for a different experience. Subsequently,
Nathaniel was the one to say ‘Rabbi, you are the son of God’. His own mind had now accepted this as truth.

You may succeed in forcefully getting people to do certain things, but you cannot force Jesus in. Even He doesn’t force His way in, He stands at the door and knocks (Rev 3:20). That knocking differs for all men, but like Phillip, we can become conduits and banners that point men to Jesus through our living and speaking.
