DAY 364

1 John 2:17 The world is passing away, along with its desires; but whoever does the will of God remains forever.
We might look around and see all manner of evidence pointing to the effect that the world we can see is moving forward. New and wittier inventions, or technological advances noticeable across all sectors like healthcare, transport and manufacturing.
Yet, our text today draws our mind to a rather grim conclusion ‘The world is passing away, along with its desires;(1 John 2:17a). No matter how much we hold on to this reality, scripture is clear that ‘the things which are seen are temporary. In other words, under specific condition, they are subject to change. The permanent things are those that have their footing in God.
It’s beautiful to behold many things, but the sad truth is ‘they are all passing by: people, resources, or assets.’ We, therefore, ought not to become locked in an embrace with the ‘things of the world’ because those things will seek to take the place of God in our lives. Whether it is our careers, family, search for wealth, it’s place in our lives should be closely monitored.
James 4:4 mentions that ‘Friendship with the world is always enmity with God. So ensure that the place of God has been cemented in your life before other matters gain relevance.
