DAY 362
Reference text: John 20:2-8

John 20:4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre
The scene in the Gospel of John today is set on the day Mary Magdalene reported that the body of Jesus was not in the tomb. Unto the scene steps two characters: “Peter and John”. We read about their race to the tomb and John outrunning Peter to arrive first at the tomb but stopped short of entering. Peter arrives later and goes straight into the tomb.
Both men had unique advantages which we find exhibited at the right timing: John having the advantage of youth, had not problem outrunning Peter. But armed with the advantage of age and experience, he went straight into the tomb. It would have been a wrong decision for Peter to decide to enter into a race to the tomb with John because he would lose regardless.
It will be unwise for an eagle to challenge a fish to a swimming contest. The fish has all its advantages in water, while the eagle has all its advantages in the air. This then, is the lesson for us to consider: there are timings to the use of our advantages and places for the same. Whether it is our words, our gifts, our resources, and so forth, there is a place where expressing those advantages have the greatest effect.
You cannot go competing with others in an area you are disadvantaged, that is foolery. Know your strengths and advantages, and play to them when it matters.
