WHO TOLD YOU?

DAY 341

Genesis  3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

God’s question to Adam was a question to clarify what he had submitted his ears to hear and obey. This question ‘Who told you that you were naked?’ was more than just about nakedness. There was a problem, because the same man who delighted in hearing the voice of God in the cool of the day, was now hiding, out of fear, from the presence of the very same God.

Something had therefore happened between their last encounter and this one so God had to ask Adam ‘who have you listened to within that time to so alter the very state of you heart towards me?’

‘Who told you’ is a very important question because it addresses a source or origin, whether of information or instruction. In out time, many voices speak to us: our flesh, our environment, the devil, and God himself. Our hearing and obedience to any of these voices affects our state of heart and our pursuit.

The serpent’s whispers which was heard, succeeded in migrating the man set in Eden, to a state of nakedness, fear and condemnation. So it’s time for a quick review: those suggestions, instructions and feedback you are banking your life on, who did you hear them from? If you can’t be sure their origin is God and his word, you might want to pull back your obedience before wading too far further forward.
