PROVIDE DETAILED HANDOVERS

DAY 333

Reading Daniel chapter five today, we travel into the walls of King Belshazzar, who threw a party for his nobles using the vessels from the temple in Jerusalem. It was in this instance that a hand appeared to write on the wall. Following this incident, scripture reports of a moment of intense fear described as follows:

"Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another"(Dan 5:6).

Hence, the king sent for his astologers, Chaldeans and soothsayer. Why? Because they were those he had been told to consult. His father Nebuchadnezzar did the very same thing in Daniel chapter 2:2 after his troubling dream. It took Daniel to interpret this dream as his own ‘wise men’ failed. Therefore, it is a bit of a surprise that Belshazzar did not seem to know anything about Daniel until his queen told him.

My attention was thus drawn to Nebuchadnezzar and the kind of handover he might have given to his son Belshazzar when he was taking over the throne. It was clear crucial details were missing. There are some information that have to be passed on to subsequent generations because if not, they will make mistakes they shouldn’t and miss out on heritage and inheritances they ought to possess.

As King David did for Solomon (1 kings 2:1-10), let us make sure our handovers are thorough and leave no critical details out. It is required of us.
