DAY 318
Luke 17:10 So you also, when you have obeyed all the orders given you, must say, "'There is no merit in our service: what we have done is only what we were in duty bound to do.'"
In a soccer game, when a striker scores a goals, they may get a thunderous celebratory applause for their effort. However, that is not intended to be the norm. It shouldn’t become something to be expected because the role of a striker in the team is to get goals: that is their duty.
Thus, for performing ones duty, you may be applauded but you should not expect to be applauded. We live in an age where people have become so applause and celebration-conscious that to even complete those tasks which are core duties and responsibilities tied to their roles, they want to be applauded for.
Beloved, whenever responsibilities seem to matter only in the light of corresponding celebration, many things will be left undone. We ought to grow to a point where we are willing and able to do what we ought to do because it is for us to do them. Not because we will be applauded, but because we are charged to.
