THE ENABLEMENT FROM GRACE

DAY 317

Luke 17:1 Jesus said to His disciples, “Stumbling blocks [temptations and traps set to lure one to sin] are sure to come, but woe (judgment is coming) to him through whom they come! (AMP)

Stumbling blocks or temptations to sin in themselves are not sin. In fact, Jesus today highlights their inevitability in the life of any man. By virtue of being human, we will at some point reach the cross road in James 1:14 ‘But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.

The highlight of today’s text is thus not to prevent the inevitable, it is a reminder of the realisation that we still have the gift of choice on the final outcome. Grace did not come as a licence to sin, but rather as an enforcer of our desires to make choices that alignment closely with what pleases the heart of God.

Therefore, whether consciously through knowledge or unconsciously through ignorance, we actually vet all the temptations that come we encounter. Regardless then of the stumbling blocks we encounter, no matter who set them up, we each have the gift of choice to decide whether to co-operate or not. That is how Grace empowers.
