DAY 310
Luke 14:13-14 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
There seems to be unspoken conventions between friends and family: if you invite me, I invite you back, if you do something for me, I do something for you in return. It is almost transactional. This convention, existing between friends and family, is shaped by our expectations which are carefully captured in our knowledge about one another.
Sadly, this has been the trigger of many conflicts and points of contention, namely ‘I did “A” for you, but you did not do “B” for me‘, suggesting an incomplete transaction and another person feeling defrauded.
Beloved, there is a dimension of our service to men that ought to capture our faith and trust in God a rewarder. You cannot and should not expect returns from men for everything you do for men because not only are all men unable to pay back in a like measure, some men are simply unwilling to. You are therefore, likely to be greatly disappointed if you assume this stance.
Jesus words today are thus an invitation for us to begin seeing God as a rewarder. That even though returns from men may not arrive, God does not leave men unrewarded for their diligent seeking and service.
