REFERENCE TEXT: Luke 6:12-19

Here is the background to today’s text: to choose twelve men, Jesus stayed all night in prayer because that was a decision which had to be accurate. There was no room for error nor was there a second attempt. Ultimately, it would be those men who carried the weight of the Gospel.

However, the sad reality is many make big decisions in life without engaging the ministry of prayer at all. Not even in the slightest sense. We go on a whim and only come running to the place of prayer when disaster strikes.

There are many of life’s decisions you cannot make with your eyes open: they have to be made with your eyes closed in prayer, your ears tilted to hearing the voice of God, your heart inclined to discerning and your feet and hands ready to respond in obedience.

There are timings to prayer, so don’t wait for things to go wrong before you start praying.
