IS YOUR EAR TRAINED TO HEAR?

DAY 294

Luke 12:11-22 Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

It is easy to claim every promise of God as your own because they are ours to receive and walk in them. However, some of these promises hinge on requirements from us – not what we might classify as ‘working to receive’, but as conditions that facilitate the actualisation of those promises.

It will be foly for the disciples, including ourselves, to take the words of Jesus today literally because like some of the promises laid out in His word, we have to be well placed for their actualisation. In this specific matter, ‘to be taught by the Holy spirit in the moment’ suggests the fulfilment of a number of conditions prior.

The default posture is to have first believed the person of Jesus, and so received the gift of the person of the Holy Spirit. Beyond this necessary foundation comes two questions:

  • 1. Have your ears been trained to hear His voice and
  • 2. Have you taught your hands to respond in obedience when you are taught?

Without these core requirements clearly set out, you might stand before the rulers of the Synagogue and authorities but have nothing to say. “Beloved,

the stage is not the place for the unprepared,

so before showing up before the authorities, ensure your ears have been trained to hear.
