HEAVEN’S SEAL OF APPROVAL

DAY 280

Luke 10:17,20 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

The things that we rejoice about and celebrate, may not be those we ought to rejoice about. So what Jesus said to the seventy two could be relayed ‘you are rejoicing over the wrong thing, and are yet to discover what ought to fill you with real joy.

It is worth noting that what they were cheering about were the visible results of their exploits. Since the demons were subjected in the name of Jesus when they went out and about, men were witnesses of these happenings. In this vain, they would have won the applause of many men and that was a cause for celebration.

But Jesus’ remark sent a different message to the effect that ‘you have really not been applauded if the corridors of heaven has not acknowledged your doing’. Therefore, the applause of men really does mean very little if heaven’s seal of approval is missing.

There are many things we can do in time, and for our effort, receive much commendation from men. However, it is only when those efforts find their place in the programme of God that we really gain commendation. If men approve, but God disapproves, whatever you gain is nothing but a loss.
